Valikaamam HSZ resettlement issue remains unresolved

The issue of resettling families uprooted from their properties by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for the establishment of High Security Zone (HSZ) discussed in a meeting in Thellippazhai Divisional Secretariat Monday was not resolved due to the non-cooperation of the Tamil political leaders, the representatives of the Welfare Organizations for Uprooted Persons (WOUP) who arranged the meeting said. WOUP had requested all the parliamentarians of Jaffna district to raise their voices together to solve the issue, its representatives said.

Parliamentarians Mavai Senathirajah, Sritharan and Sarvanabavan of Tamil National Allinace (TNA), Sri Lankan Minister Douglas Devananda of Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) and Ms. Vijayakala Maheswaran of United National Party (UNP) participated in the meeting.

Mavai Senathirajah offered his full cooperation if Minister Douglas Devananda would take the lead to resolve the issue.

Sarnabavan, however, said that there were ministers apart from Douglas Devananda and the uprooted civilians could take the issue to them and solve it.

Meanwhile, informed sources said that the Northern Province Governor G. A. Chandrasiri had announced that he had given permission to reopen Vasaavizhaan Maththiya Maha Viththiyaalam in mid June.
