Budget second reading passed in SL parliament

The Sri Lanka’s parliament Saturday evening adopted the second reading of the Budget for the year 2010 by a majority of sixty three votes. 138 parliamentarians voted for the budget and 75 voted against. Eleven parliamentarians were absent when the vote was taken, parliamentary sources said.

Opposition parliamentarians created a commotion when the second reading of the Budget was put to vote. Government parliamentarians requested the Speaker to take action against opposition members who were responsible for the commotion.

The acting Minister of Finance Dr. Sarath Amunugama presented the 2010 budget last Tuesday and the debate on the seconding commenced the following day.
