Rajapaksa fears arrest in UK: Times of India

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s scheduled visit to UK has been called off by him fearing arrest in UK for his alleged war crimes under British law, the Times of India reported Friday. SL Foreign Minister G L Peiris was despatched to reconnoitre last month, the paper said, adding that certain Tamil organisations were planning to move court for Mr. Rajapaksa’s arrest. Mahinda Rajapaksa is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Sri Lankan armed forces. Meanwhile, Eezham Tamil political activists allege that the war crimes in the island took place with the full blessings of the Indian Establishment.

The Colombo government continues the multi-faceted genocide of Eezham Tamils in the island even after the war.

Its recent Sinhala colonisation programme, especially in the strategic areas of Jaffna peninsula, seeks to squeeze the neck of the region, civil sources in Jaffna said.

About the ongoing colonisation and genocide, Eezham Tamils blame India and the West as responsible for allowing such a situation in their homeland.

Rajapaksa has returned to the island after an official visit to China.

Last month, he was ‘honorary guest’ in New Delhi for the closing day function of the Commonwealth games.

Addressing the Oxford Union was one of his programmes in the scheduled visit to UK which has now been cancelled.
