SL government to screen NGOs

Sri Lanka’s government is to launch an island wide registration of non-government, organizations (NGO) operating in the country, Sri Lanka Minister Dinesh Gunawardene said in parliament Tuesday. He made this statement in response to a question by government parliamentarian Rajiva Wijesinghe.

The Minister who is also the government chief whip said some NGOs have been acting against the welfare of the country and are also engaged in tarnishing the image of the country abroad.

The government will look into the problems in respect of granting visa extensions to representatives of some NGOs, he said
