AIADMK slams Lankan leaders for criticising Jaya

The state unit of AIADMK, on Tuesday, condemned Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa for criticising party general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for demanding the trial of the Island leaders for war crimes.

The AIADMK leaders and cadre, who turned up for a protest demonstration, resorted to burning of the effigies of the Lankan leaders to condemn their criticism and Union government’s inaction in the issue.

AIADMK Puducherry Unit secretary A Anabazhagan said that Jayalalithaa was instrumental in passing a resolution calling for the trial of Sri Lankan leaders for committing ‘war crimes’ in the last stages of the war.

She had also demanded international sanctions against Sri Lanka.

Pointing out that the Sri Lankan leader had been criticised by the United Nations for committing atrocities against the Tamils, Anabazhagan said the Union government chose to keep silent and did not react against the Lankan leaders criticism.

The protest, led by Anbazhagan, was attended by other four MLAs A Baskar, L Periyasamy, P Purushothaman and Om Shakthi Sekar along with party cadre.
