Don’t comment on UNHRC sessions -Ranil

UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on Thursday asked his MPs to refrain from commenting on the ongoing sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) or referring to them in any way at the present time. He said it was a subject that it was up to the government to handle.

During a meeting with his MPs, Mr. Wickremesinghe briefed his party members on how Sri Lanka had become a subject of discussion at the UNHRC from time to time since 1987. He described how the governments of the time had overcome these challenges through intelligent approaches.

The UNP had also decided to ask for a parliamentary debate during the first week of May on what had transpired during the 19th sessions of the UNHRC and the steps that would be taken by the government at the 20th sessions scheduled to be held later this year. (Kelum Bandara)
