You might remember a film called Vengayam which had released a few months back. It was a small scale film made with newcomers; directed and produced by Sankagiri Rajkumar. The film could not grab the viewers’ attention because of lack of publicity due to paucity of funds. The film, as a result, had a poor run at the box office. However, the film had received very positive reviews from all over, especially for handling a very socially relevant theme in a positive manner. Vengayam deals with the crusade led by a group of youngsters against malicious forces that tried to misuse the superstitions and beliefs that still exist in our society. Sathyaraj had made a guest appearance in the movie. Now, after seeing the movie, director Cheran has felt that it deserves to be seen by a larger number of people. Therefore, he has acquired the rights for the film and will be releasing it throughout Tamil Nadu on the 23rd of March; this time with some good publicity, so that the film gets its due. We laud this gesture on Cheran’s part which shows that he really cares about good cinema.
