Visit of Indian delegation of MPs to Sri Lanka in doubt after Geneva vote

The impending visit of an all-party delegation of Indian MPs to Sri Lanka in April has come under a cloud of uncertainty after India’s vote in favour of a US-sponsored resolution, which was adopted at the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva, the Times of India reported.

"Whether the visit will happen now or if it will be delayed, we can’t say at this juncture," Congress Rajya Sabha MP and president of the Tamil Nadu Congress unit B S Gnanadesikan said.

He said the Centre would take a decision based on inputs from the external affairs ministry, which is in touch with the Sri Lankan government. He said the leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj of the BJP, who has been named by the government to head the delegation, could fix the dates of the visit according to her
convenience.
