TMVP, Karuna paramilitary factions clash in Ampaa’rai, 3 abducted

Three TMVP persons were abducted and a Jeep has been set on fire following clashes between TMVP group led by Eastern Provincial Council Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan and Karuna group led by SLFP Deputy Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna, a minister in Rajapaksa’s government, at Thirukkoayil in Ampa’raai district Wednesday afternoon. Karauna paramilitary operative Iniyaparathy and his men had attacked the group of 50 persons of TMVP paramilitary which went in three vans to campaign for Mahinda Rajapaksa to Thirukkoayil area.

TMVP Pillayan group was attacked first while they were passing the office of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Three Pillayan operatives have been reported missing and three others sustained injuries.

A vehicle, sent to locate the missing persons, has been set on fire around 5:00 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle is also reported missing.
