Slain Tiger chief’s mother ‘refused’ entry to India

The ailing mother of Sri Lanka’s slain Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran has been denied entry to India for medical treatment, the pro-rebel Tamilnet website reported Saturday.

Vallipuram Parvathi travelled from Malaysia to the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Friday night, but was prevented from leaving the aircraft, Tamilnet said.

She was "refused landing by Indian immigration officials," the website said.

Parvathi had left Sri Lanka for Malaysia after the death of her husband in military custody in January.

Prabhakaran’s parents were among thousands of civilians who fled the war zone in northeastern Sri Lanka early last year as government forces launched a final offensive against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eeelam (LTTE) rebels.
