SL ‘Terrorist’ squad arrests 9 Tamils in Moothoor East

An elite squad of the Sri Lankan ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID) that arrived in Trincomalee on Monday from Colombo has been conducting search operations in the district targeting Tamil youth. The squad has so far arrested 9 Tamils and transferred them to Colombo from Moothoor police station, news sources said. The latest rounds of harassments by the TID squad is reported following the protest by Eezham Tamils who had put up posters condemning the observation of the SL ‘independence’ day in Trincomalee.

The SL TID team, claiming it was looking for the supporters of the LTTE, has been conducting search operations in Paddiththidal, Ki’liveddi, Lingkapuram, Mallikaith-theevu and Kaddai-pa’richchaan in Moothoor East and West divisions.

SL Police sources said the operation is to nab LTTE activists who had been hiding in the Moothoor East.

The arrested Tamils would be given rehabilitation before their release, sources added.
