UK High Commission produces video to advise women travelers to Sri Lanka

The British High Commission in Colombo has produced a video to advise women travelers to Sri Lanka on their safety.

The video, titled ‘Have Fun and Stay Safe’ is a message about the safety of the woman traveler visiting Sri Lanka and was produced as part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Consular Directorate’s global awareness raising programme for the woman traveler.

In the video three women who are wardens for the British High Commission in Colombo explain the cultural sensitivities in the country and offer their views and advice on activities such as night life in Colombo, pubs and bars, and traveling alone by road, especially at night.

The video advises the women to dress appropriately at religious places, be aware of the local laws and not to draw unwanted attention.

The FCO says it is using social media and digital tools to raise awareness of and to provide consular and crisis services. Part of this approach includes the continuing "Know Before You Go" campaign and other awareness raising programs on region-specific issues.
