Former LTTE member reported missing in Jaffna

31-year-old Anthonimuthu Anton Jeyaron has been reported missing since Monday, according to a complaint by his wife in Jaffna on Tuesday. The incident comes amidst Sri Lanka Army stepping up harassment of former LTTE members before Tamil Eelam Heroes Day on 27 November. The Sri Lanka Army had earlier released Mr Jeyaron after so-called rehabilitation, his wife further said. He had been in Vanni till May 2009 and surrendered to the SL military at the end of the war.

He has been reported missing since Monday when he went to a grocery shop, according to the complaint.

Jeyaron is from Ainthu-maadi settlement in Kurunakar.

SL military has deployed surveillance cells operating from ‘safe houses’ at residential areas throughout the Jaffna peninsula.

An ex-LTTE member and a former policeman of Tamil Eelam Police was shot and killed last Wednesday in Mannaar at Eekam-kudiyiruppu (settlement of sacrifice) at Ve’l’laangku’lam, situated 45 km north of Mannaar.
