Paramilitary operatives of Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, the former UPFA-appointed Chief Minister of Eastern Province, have threatened monitors appointed on behalf of the common opposition to monitor the polling stations at Chiththaa’ndi in Batticaloa, news sources in Batticaloa said. In the meantime, Iniyabarathy’s paramilitary operatives in Ampaa’rai district have assaulted a TNA divisional councillor P. Vijayarasa near Thirukkoayil Peoples Bank.
Mr Vijayarasa has been admitted at Thirukkoayil Hospital.
At Chiththaa’ndi in Batticaloa, Pillayan’s paramilitary operatives were spotted near the polling stations at 1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions.
The operatives of Pillayan, who visited polling monitor Thavarasa Jeyasri’s sister Vanysri, and threatened her stating that she would be risking her Samurdhi position if Jeyasri continued her duty at the polling station,
44 minor election violations were registered in Batticaloa, according to election monitors.
