Heavy fighting breaks out in ‘safety zone’ border

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) launched a fresh ground offensive in the early hours of Monday around 2:00 a.m. targeting Iraddai-vaaykkaal, according to TamilNet correspondent in Vanni. Heavy shelling and exchange of gunfire was reported. Shelling targeted Iraddai-vaaykkaal, Mu’l’li-vaaykkaal, Valaignarmadam and Pokk’anai areas. There have been civilian casualties.
