Sixteen held over filming without approval

Sixteen persons including a US national were held by the Kalpitiya police yesterday evening for filming a documentary without proper approval.

The group was later released after recording statements. About eleven women from Pallivasal Thurai in Kalpitiya were asked to portray how their day to day work were being carried out in a minefield, allegedly to show the hardship faced by them.

A resident of Pitakotte, who was the local director of the documentary, was also among the persons, held by the police and later released. (Jude Samantha & Pathma Kumari)
