Skeletons in mass grave in Mannaar reaches 48

Remains of 48 victims have been recovered so far in the forensic excavation being conducted at the killing field of Thirukkeatheesvaram in Maanthai, Mannaar. Meanwhile, the Northern Provincial Council on Monday brought a resolution demanding independent international investigations conducted by the United Nations on the mass grave in Mannaar.

Earlier, the Bishop of Mannaar, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Tamil National Peoples Front (TNPF) have called for international investigations on the killing field of Mannaar.

A team of Sri Lankan Police ‘Criminal Investigation Department’ was conducting so-called forensic investigations at the site for the third day. The excavation conducted for 15th time on Monday is scheduled to continue on Tuesday.
