Colombo attempts to deceive Muslims in Trincomalee with makeshift ‘mosque’

The occupying Sri Lankan military, which demolished a key mosque of Muslims in Trincomalee Town and Gravets division in August this year has now put up a temporary structure at the locality and allowed the Muslims to visit and pray at the ‘mosque’ with a false propaganda of constructing the mosque. The land where the mosque was situated at Ve’l’lai-ma’nal has been already given to China under a ‘defence related development’ project by Colombo. After visiting the temporary structure, the uprooted Muslim people from Karumalai-oottu said the Colombo government was deceiving the Tamil-speaking Muslims ahead of the upcoming SL presidential elections.

The mosque, established in 1926 and registered as a Jumma Mosque in 1947, has been seized by the SL military, which demarcated the area as ‘High Security Zone’ in 2009.

The journalists who visited the area confirmed the earlier reports of complete destruction of the mosque. Earlier, a commander of the SL military in the area was telling the people that the ‘part of the mosque’ was ‘damaged’ when the SL military was constructing a ‘restaurant’ close to the mosque.

The lands given to China are located on the Western side of the Inner Harbour, around the military area coming from British colonial times and presently stationed by the occupying Sinhala military.

1,200 acres of lands, from Prima flourmill to Karumalai-oottu, including Ve’l’lai-ma’nal and Clappenburg Bay are given to China.

Cod Bay, China Bay, Malay Bay, Snug Bay, Clappenburg Bay and Deadman’s Cove are the bays on the western side of the Inner Harbour at Trincomalee.

The China Bay area and the Prima flourmill surroundings are already Sinhalicised.

Champoor, where people are uprooted for India to get an enclave is located right across, on the southern side of the Koddiyaara Bay.

Colombo’s plan is two-fold: Sinhalicising Trincomalee on one hand to have the demographic control, and on the other hand converting it into a functioning major military base of international importance, so that all the powers in the world have to be always in negotiating terms with the Sinhala-Buddhist State in Colombo.
